The Vice Chairman of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) for Mainland Tanzania, Stephen Wasira, has held talks with His Eminence Cardinal Protase Rugambwa during an official visit to the Catholic Archdiocese of Tabora on April 16, 2025.
The meeting was part of Wasira’s broader tour of Tabora Region aimed at inspecting the vitality of the ruling party and evaluating the implementation of the CCM 2020–2025 Election Manifesto.
Their discussions focused on the importance of national peace, unity, and the moral foundation of Tanzanian society.
“We cannot build a strong nation without peace, and peace cannot exist without mutual respect,” said Wasira.
“That’s why as political and religious leaders, we must walk hand in hand to preserve our national harmony and guide our people toward progress.”
Cardinal Rugambwa welcomed the visit and reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s commitment to working with all national stakeholders to promote development, compassion, and stability.
“The Church has always stood for justice, unity, and service to the people,” said Cardinal Rugambwa. “We are ready to continue our partnership with the government in areas like education, healthcare, and uplifting the poor.”
The two leaders agreed that Tanzania’s development should be anchored in strong values, patriotism, and a sense of responsibility among citizens, especially the youth. They also noted that peace and stability should never be taken for granted.
After the meeting, Wasira visited St. Mary's (Mihayo) Secondary School in Tabora Municipality. The school is a historic institution where the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, taught for three years in the early years of his career.
Standing in one of the classrooms where Nyerere once taught, Wasira reflected on the significance of education in shaping Tanzania’s destiny.
“This school is more than just a learning institution it is a symbol of leadership, sacrifice, and the dream of a better Tanzania,” he said. “Our youth must know where we came from, so they can shape where we are going.”
He encouraged students to embrace discipline, hard work, and patriotism, noting that the legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere must live on through the actions and mindset of the new generation.
Wasira’s tour of Tabora is part of a nationwide campaign to strengthen the party at grassroots level and ensure that promises made to citizens are being fulfilled across all sectors.
