Iringa District Commissioner, Comrade Kheri James, has called on all eligible residents to actively engage in the ongoing voter registration and information update process ahead of Tanzania's upcoming General Election in 2025.
Speaking during his community mobilization tour across villages and neighborhoods in the district, DC James emphasized the importance of ensuring that all eligible citizens are registered and their details up to date.
“This is not just a formality it’s a critical part of our democratic process,” said DC James. “Every eligible citizen must ensure their information is accurately recorded so they can fully participate in the election process, whether by voting or standing for office.”
The voter registration and update exercise, which began on May 2, 2025, is part of the second phase of the process managed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The exercise is scheduled to conclude on May 7, 2025, and it specifically targets first-time voters, individuals who have changed their place of residence, those who have lost their voter ID cards, and others who meet the eligibility criteria set by NEC.
“Adhering to the guidelines provided by the Electoral Commission is essential for a smooth registration process,” DC James explained. “We must ensure no one who is eligible to vote is left out.”
He commended the residents who have already registered and updated their details, encouraging others to do so as well before the deadline.
“Those who have already taken the step to update their information are contributing to the strength of our democracy,” he added. “I urge everyone else to act now and ensure they are ready to participate fully.”
Additionally, DC James praised local leaders and electoral stakeholders for their ongoing efforts in educating and mobilizing the public. “Your work in spreading awareness and encouraging participation is invaluable,” he stated.
