Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has expressed the government’s deep appreciation for the essential role played by the private sector in driving national development, particularly in improving the welfare of Tanzanian society.

Addressing attendees on Friday (May 02, 2025), while representing President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 100th anniversary and 100th meeting of Rotary International District 9214, covering Tanzania and Uganda, Majaliwa emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors. The event was held at The Super Dome conference hall in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

"Our government is fully committed to strengthening our partnership with all Rotarians, so that, together, we can continue to advance the prosperity and well-being of Tanzania," Majaliwa said, underscoring the crucial role of private sector organizations like Rotary in fostering national growth.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the remarkable contributions made by Rotary Clubs, particularly in the areas of health, water, and education.

He highlighted their efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable communities and their tireless commitment to social development.

"The work being done by Rotary Clubs has had a profound impact on communities across the country. From drilling wells in rural areas to furnishing and renovating schools, and providing essential medical equipment to healthcare facilities, Rotary has demonstrated unwavering dedication to uplifting the lives of the most vulnerable," Majaliwa remarked, praising their ongoing projects.

Majaliwa also took the opportunity to recognize the recent achievement of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who was awarded “The Gates Goalkeepers Award.”

The prestigious award was presented in recognition of her administration’s notable successes, particularly in the reduction of maternal mortality rates.

"I am proud to share that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan was recently honored with 'The Gates Goalkeepers Award' for her outstanding leadership, which has resulted in an 80% reduction in maternal deaths.

This achievement is a testament to her tireless efforts to improve healthcare in our country," Majaliwa stated, highlighting the President’s significant contribution to national health improvements.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the government's increased efforts in expanding healthcare services.

"Under President Dr. Samia’s leadership, the government has made substantial investments in healthcare, enhancing the availability of medicines and medical equipment. Additionally, we have built over 530 maternity centers, all aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality, as well as the deaths of children under five," Majaliwa added.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Daniel Sillo, also recognized Rotary’s vital role in Tanzania’s development.

However, he took the opportunity to remind the organization about the importance of complying with legal requirements for community organization registration.

"While we commend the invaluable efforts of Rotary in Tanzania, it is important to remember the need to comply with the registration standards set by the Registrar of Community Organizations. Adhering to these requirements ensures the smooth operation of community-driven initiatives," Sillo emphasized.

Both Majaliwa and Sillo highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the government and private sector organizations like Rotary, stressing that such partnerships are key to advancing the social and economic development of Tanzania.
