Deputy Minister in the President’s Office   Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG),  Zainab Katimba, has urged local government directors to prioritize allocating internal revenues toward essential development projects, with a strong focus on the education sector.

Delivering a statement in Parliament today in Dodoma on behalf of the Minister of State,  Mohamed Mchengerwa,  Katimba was responding to a question from  Mwita Waitara, Member of Parliament for Tarime Rural.

The MP had requested the government to issue clear guidelines for all councils to develop plans addressing the shortage of desks, chairs, and tables in schools.

“I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize once again that all 184 local council directors must fulfill their core responsibility,”  Katimba stated.

“They should allocate funds from their own source revenue and ensure these resources are included in their planning and budgeting for the implementation of key development initiatives.”

She stressed that proper use of locally generated funds is critical to strengthening public services, particularly education, at the grassroots level.

Looking ahead, Hon. Katimba shared the government’s funding goals for the next financial year. “For the 2025/26 fiscal year, the government has set aside TZS 613 billion, in addition to local council revenue, to support various development projects, including the provision of school desks,” she announced.

Her remarks reflect the government’s continued commitment to improving learning environments and empowering local authorities to drive development through responsible budgeting and planning
