Dar es Salaam, May 2, 2025 — The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Tanzania has expressed its appreciation to the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) for its continued support in enhancing the safety and capacity of journalists ahead of the 2025 General Election.
Speaking during a training session held at Mbezi Garden Hotel in Dar es Salaam, MISA Tanzania Chairperson Edwin Soko thanked THRDC for equipping journalists with knowledge on election laws and providing them with protective "press jackets" to ensure their safety while covering the upcoming elections.
“The partnership between MISA Tanzania and THRDC remains crucial as we approach the 2025 General Election. Our goal is to safeguard press freedom and promote the safety of all journalists during this important democratic process,” said Soko.
The capacity-building training, conducted on May 2, aimed at strengthening journalists’ understanding of electoral laws and their role in ensuring credible and peaceful coverage of elections.
THRDC National Coordinator Onesmo Olengurumwa officially handed over the press jackets to MISA Tanzania, reaffirming the coalition's commitment to protecting human rights defenders, including members of the media.
“We thank MISA Tanzania for the solid collaboration. It is through such partnerships that we can collectively advance the safety and freedom of journalists in the country,” said Olengurumwa.
The event is part of the broader efforts by civil society organizations to prepare media professionals for responsible, safe, and law-abiding election reporting.
