Residents of Kaliua District in Tabora Region have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the government for delivering specialist medical services directly to their community through the Ministry of Health’s outreach program.
The praise was voiced on April 30, 2025, during the second day of a medical outreach camp held at the Ulyankulu Health Center as part of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiative to bring specialist doctors and medical experts to underserved areas across the country.
“For years, we’ve heard about these expert medical camps taking place in our district, but they never made it this far. We couldn’t afford to travel to those other locations,” said Mr. Silvesta Bahite, a resident of Ikonongo village.
Dr. Leonard Nyigo, the Medical Officer in Charge at Ulyankulu Health Center, reported that over 200 people had received specialized care in just two days.
He emphasized the broader benefits of the initiative, noting that the visiting experts not only provided treatment but also offered hands-on training to local healthcare workers and helped activate long-dormant services.
“This initiative has truly empowered us. For instance, we’ve now launched our Neonatal Care Unit (NCU), which had the equipment but was never operational. We’re incredibly grateful to the government for recognizing the need in this community,” said Dr. Nyigo.
Pediatric specialist Dr. Amos Charles also highlighted the high demand for services at this camp, sharing that he treated 39 children in a single day double the number he typically sees during other clinics.
The outreach is part of the fifth phase of the Specialist Doctors and Experts Camp officially launched by the Minister of Health, Jenista Mhagama, on April 28, 2025.
The minister urged leaders at all levels to encourage residents to take advantage of the services introduced under President Samia’s visionary health initiative
