UDSM crowned Champions of higher education and Samia Cup

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has been crowned champions of the Higher Education and Samia Cup tournament, which concluded yesterday at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.

UDSM claimed the title after defeating the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) 2-0 in a thrilling final match.

As the tournament winners, UDSM walked away with the championship trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize of TZS 5 million.

DIT finished as runners-up, receiving a cash award of TZS 250,000 and silver medals. St. Joseph University secured third place and was awarded TZS 150,000, while the Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) finished fourth, earning TZS 1 million and bronze medals.

In the women’s category, KIUT emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win over the National Institute of Transport (NIT) in the final curtain-raiser.

KIUT’s women’s team also took home a cash prize of TZS 5 million. NIT finished second and received TZS 250,000. 

The Tanzania Revenue Authority Training Institute and the Institute of Social Work placed third and fourth respectively.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, UDSM Head Coach Miraji I. Rashid attributed his team’s success to disciplined preparation and strategic execution by the players.

Our journey to the championship was long and challenging, but through determination and God’s grace, we made it,” said Rashid. “I’m proud of my players—they followed every instruction, stayed focused, and delivered on the pitch.”

The Higher Education and Samia Cup tournament was organized and sponsored by Conel Investment, in partnership with various stakeholders committed to promoting youth talent and sports development in Tanzania.
