Speaking at the launch of the event today, August 2, 2024,
in Dar es Salaam, Acting Director of Maendeleo Bank, Peter Tarimo, highlighted
the critical need for resources at these centers. He noted that many children
die due to a lack of essential services and equipment, such as beds and medical
supplies.
“At KCMC Hospital, more than 500 children are born
prematurely each year, but the need far exceeds the available resources.
Consequently, many children die due to insufficient care and equipment,” Tarimo
explained.
Statistics show that 25% to 30% of the children admitted to
KCMC's neonatal unit, roughly 150 out of 500, do not survive, primarily due to
a lack of necessary medical equipment.
The launch event was officiated by Prof. Ulingeta Mbamba,
with the run’s theme being "A Step of Comfort - Season Two". This
event aims to raise awareness and funds to bridge the resource gap and improve
care for vulnerable children in these centers.
The Maendeleo Bank Charity Run represents a significant
effort to support and uplift the lives of Tanzania’s most vulnerable children,
ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve.
