March 27, 2025 — Airtel Tanzania received special recognition at the Government Minority Interest Directors Forum 2025 for its significant contributions to Tanzania’s economic growth and digital transformation.
Organized by the Office of the Treasury Registrar and held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School, the forum convened key government and private sector stakeholders to explore strategies for sustainable development. Airtel Tanzania’s role as a key partner was highlighted, reinforcing its commitment to driving economic progress nationwide.
Officiating
the event, Minister for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo,
acknowledged the vital role of minority interest companies in strengthening
Tanzania’s economy and commended Airtel Tanzania’s unwavering support.
"I
commend the Office of the Treasury Registrar for organizing this important
forum and extend my appreciation to all partners, including Airtel Tanzania,
for their support. This event underscores the importance of strategic
collaboration between the government and private sector in fostering economic
transformation. Minority interest companies continue to make substantial
contributions to government revenue, with annual dividends surging from Sh 58
billion in 2019/20 to Sh 195 billion in 2023/24—a remarkable growth of over
200%. Collectively, these 17 minority interest entities now account for nearly
33% of the total dividends collected by the government annually," said
Prof. Mkumbo.
The
Minister further emphasized that Tanzania’s Development 2050 agenda envisions a
pivotal role for the private sector in driving the nation’s economic ambitions.
Airtel
Tanzania Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, who participated as a panel
speaker, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in such a crucial
dialogue. "It is an honor to be part of the Government Minority Interest
Directors Forum 2025. I sincerely thank the Office of the Treasury Registrar
for organizing this impactful gathering. At Airtel Tanzania, we remain
steadfast in our mission to leverage technology for economic growth, enhance
business performance, and create long-term value for all stakeholders,"
Kamoto stated.
He
highlighted Airtel Tanzania’s substantial investments in network infrastructure
and technology, emphasizing that the company has invested over Sh 650 billion
in the past five years to expand coverage and enhance customer experience.
"In
2024 alone, we allocated Sh 130 billion towards infrastructure expansion,
spectrum acquisition, and advanced technology deployment. This investment
reaffirms our commitment to enhancing connectivity while ensuring sustainable
returns for investors," Kamoto added.
Adding
to the discussion, Airtel Tanzania’s Director of Business Enterprise, Joseph
Muhere, underscored the importance of continuous engagement between the
government and private sector in advancing Tanzania’s development agenda.
"These
collaborative engagements are essential for aligning on key areas of growth. By
fostering stronger partnerships, we can drive innovation, enhance investment
opportunities, and develop sustainable solutions that contribute to Tanzania’s
long-term economic success," Muhere noted.
The
Government Minority Interest Directors Forum 2025 concluded with a renewed
commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships between the government and
