Morogoro, March 2025 – Around 7,000 people in Idete Village, Kilosa District, Morogoro, will soon enjoy better mobile communication after Airtel Tanzania built a 4G tower in their area.
This new tower will help residents connect with others, making life easier and creating new economic opportunities.
During a visit to check on the tower’s progress, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa, said the project supports President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s goal of a fully connected Tanzania.
He pointed out that the new network will greatly help farmers and livestock keepers in the village.
“As the District Commissioner mentioned, people here no longer have to travel to Kilosa town to sell their products or keep in touch with their families. They can now do everything from their village, just like other Tanzanians,” Minister Silaa said.
He also emphasized that the government is committed to expanding communication networks across the country.
“We want this tower to be up and running by April 1st and officially launched by April 15th. This will ensure that people in Idete can start using mobile services without delays,” he added.
Minister Silaa explained that this tower is part of a larger plan to connect 8.5 million Tanzanians who previously lacked reliable network services.
He thanked the government for funding the project, which will help improve communication and boost economic activities in rural areas.
Airtel Tanzania’s Public Relations Manager, Jackson Mmbando, confirmed that construction is going well and will be completed on time.
“Our team has already selected three local agents to help with Airtel services, creating job opportunities. We have also trained small agents who will provide Airtel Money services.
In addition, 10 Airtel Money branches are ready to start operating once the tower is switched on,” Mmbando said.
He encouraged residents to take advantage of the new services to improve their businesses and daily lives.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF).
The new communication tower is a big step toward improving mobile services in Idete and nearby villages.
It will help residents connect with the rest of the country and access more opportunities for growth and development.
