Freedom Torch race 2025 to launch in Pwani

The National Freedom Torch Race 2025 will be launched on April 2 in Pwani Region, with citizens encouraged to participate in large numbers.

 The Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities,  Ridhiwani Kikwete, made the announcement today, March 26, 2025, during a press briefing.

“The Freedom Torch Race is a symbol of unity, patriotism, and development. We call upon residents of Pwani and neighboring regions to turn out in large numbers to witness and participate in this historic event,” said  Kikwete.

 He also revealed that the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania,  Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, will be the guest of honor at the launch.

 Kikwete emphasized the importance of the 2025 race, noting that its theme focuses on civic education and reminding citizens to engage in the upcoming General Election peacefully.

 “This year’s theme encourages Tanzanians to take part in the electoral process with peace and unity. The Freedom Torch will serve as a reminder of our shared responsibility to uphold democracy,” he added.

The minister further explained that the Freedom Torch will be carried across 31 regions and 195 local councils in both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, reinforcing its mission to inspire community involvement in national development.

 “As the torch travels across the country, it will continue to ignite hope and promote progress in various sectors,” he said.

As part of preparations,  Kikwete visited Kibaha Education Centre Stadium, where the official launch will take place. 

“We have assessed the venue, and everything is set for a grand launch that will reflect the spirit and significance of the Freedom Torch Race,” he concluded.
