TANESCO announces temporary disruption to LUKU token purchases via mobile networks

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has announced a temporary disruption affecting customers' ability to purchase LUKU electricity tokens through mobile phone networks.

In a statement issued on Sunday from its headquarters in Dodoma, TANESCO reported that a system challenge has affected its prepaid electricity service, making it currently impossible for customers to buy tokens via mobile money platforms—a service typically available from 8:00 AM each day.

“We are experiencing a technical challenge within the LUKU system that is preventing mobile transactions,” the statement read. “Our team of experts is working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore the service to normal as quickly as possible.”

While efforts to fix the problem are underway, TANESCO has advised customers to use registered LUKU agents located across the country to purchase their electricity tokens.

The utility company apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that an update will be issued once the mobile payment system is fully restored.

TANESCO emphasized its commitment to ensuring reliable service delivery and thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the disruption.
