The leadership of the Tanzania Women’s Premier League (TWPL) has called on Tanzanians and sports stakeholders to invest more in women’s football both the traditional game and Futsal emphasizing that the growing success of women’s teams deserves greater support.
Tanzania’s national women’s Futsal team recently made history by finishing second in the African Futsal Cup of Nations held in Morocco, securing a spot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup scheduled for November this year in the Philippines.
Speaking on May 3, 2025, during the team’s official welcome ceremony, TWPL Chairperson Somoe Ng’itu praised the squad’s historic achievement and urged increased investment and public support.
“I urge all Tanzanians not to hesitate in supporting women’s football. These young women have proven that they can compete at the highest level and bring pride to the nation,” said Ng’itu.
“Many thought we were just going to participate but we left with a mission to qualify for the World Cup, and we did. This success shows that Tanzania has the talent and determination to shine on the global stage,” she added.
Ng’itu also pointed out that the team achieved this milestone despite having significantly less preparation time compared to their opponents.
“Our girls gave everything. This is not the end it’s just the beginning. Come November in the Philippines, expect even greater things. Women don’t rely on luck we compete with purpose,” she said.
Team captain Violeth Nicholas expressed pride in their performance, saying the qualification fulfilled one of their major goals.
“We faced challenges, especially in understanding the rules and fast-paced nature of Futsal. But thanks to our knowledgeable coach, we quickly adapted. Tanzanians should expect great things in November we’re confident that with proper preparation, we’ll go even further,
Player Najiati Idrisa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Tanzania and noted that Futsal has uncovered new talents.
“I’m thankful to God. This was our first time in the tournament, and I managed to win several awards. With more investment, I believe we can go far,” Idrisa said.
Another player, Fatma Issa, emphasized the power of unity and determination in their journey.
“We set clear goals and gave everything on the pitch. Everyone on the team was motivated, and that made a huge difference,” she said.
Issa encouraged more young people to take an interest in Futsal.
“I invite everyone to come and learn this game it’s fast, exciting, and very rewarding once you understand it,” she concluded.
